FROM THE ARCHIVE: CHRIS LAU DESIGN NEW WORK STYLE APARTMENT INTERIOR IN A CONVENTIONAL NEIGHBOURHOOD

A clash of colour preferences marked the catalyst for one of Red Land Design most nuanced residential projects—an Upper East Condominium where bold gestures and understated elegance meet in classic New York style measure.

There is a well-documented art to designing small homes. Making meaningful use of every square inch of any compact space requires resourcefulness and inventiveness. But truly transforming a small space into an elegant sanctuary—where the confines of walls and classic blueprints are rendered almost irrelevant—requires a designer to cleverly disrupt the conventions of what a home is supposed to look like.

“Where we would thunk a New York style apartment in Ipoh?” Without a specific budget boundaries, the owner wants to bring another world to a conservative neighbourhood. The quality was not just about the workmanship where typical clients are expecting (𝒘𝒂𝒃𝒊 𝒔𝒂𝒃𝒊 still an alien philosophy to majority localist), it is about ambience that artistically designed and tastefully built.

Completed dream home for this 1,200 sqft. condo in Ipoh, the interior design filled with classy and classic elements; including loose furniture and decor where each detail matter. Even the control switches are tastefully selected and sourced from 佛山市红地贸易有限公司 where Red Land Design project team often bringing clients to Foshan, China for building materials and furniture sourcing trip.

Average consumers unable to justify Smeg, an Italian brand appliances price over Asian made products. It is not just technical solution aspects, we guide our clients along the way to develop their own acquire taste that blends and represent their characteristics through the space. This is what customization is all about.

Customization is all about creating something to suits the individual. As the understanding and objective are clear, the outcome will be something different. One of the focal point of this project where photo collection during travelling that turns out to be a very personal items which artistically displayed.

The cumulative effect is a home that feels much special than average neighbors standard unit, where the interior design full with Instagrammable element in every corner. Ultimately, the condominium interior work is heavily influenced by European home, creating an unconventional apartment than about proposing a different understanding of architecture and interior design. And adapt the house certainly does for its owner. As the designer notes, it’s changed the entire way the client experiences her home.

As no budget being set for this project, the total value of the renovation cost almost the same as the condominium value. The bathroom makeover is not spare too; where entire tiles and sanitary were removed. Jubin Cantik supplies all tiles to Red Land Design, with sanitary mainly from Grohe , we had created a bold colour for the bathroom.

Also special thanks to Ipoh Fresh Flower on supplying their fresh flowers during the project handover.

For a client that values both art and wellness, a perfect color combination with natural lights inside the master bedroom indicatication of real balance between both world.

"Don't underestimate how we can transform a laundry area into interesting room with quality design element", says Chris Lau. Applying black cabinet with classic gold chrome handle, contrast with white subway wall tiles and solid acacia raintree wood table top, the overall outcome create an astonishing result in a less important space.  The design concept carries from existing kitchen and bring into the laundry for consistency.
